Harry Partch

Harry Partch (1901–1974) was an American composer and instrument builder who pioneered microtonal music, developing a 43-tone scale grounded in just intonation. He abandoned standard Western tuning and constructed a diverse set of custom instruments to perform his works, often combining extended vocal writing with percussion-like timbres and elements of staged performance. His practice is closely associated with experimental approaches to tuning, instrument design, and theatrical composition.
