Gilberto Gil

Gilberto Gil is a Brazilian singer, songwriter and guitarist known for blending Brazilian popular music with rock, reggae and African rhythms. He was a central figure in the 1960s Tropicália movement, incorporated experimental arrangements and socially minded lyrics, and spent time in exile in the late 1960s. In later decades he continued to explore diverse musical textures and served as Brazil's Minister of Culture, reflecting his engagement with both artistic innovation and cultural policy.
