Earl "E-40" Stevens, a Bay Area rapper from Vallejo, is known for his distinctive rapid, slightly nasal delivery, inventive slang and wordplay, and a prolific independent career that has shaped West Coast and Bay Area hip hop. He emerged in the early 1990s as a member of The Click, became associated with the hyphy movement, and is also noted for frequent collaborations and entrepreneurial activities outside of music.
