Don Cherry

Don Cherry (1936–1995) was an American jazz trumpeter and composer associated with the free jazz movement and with later explorations of world fusion. He worked closely with Ornette Coleman in the late 1950s and 1960s and was known for using a pocket trumpet, freer approaches to harmony and rhythm, and for incorporating instruments and musical ideas from Africa, South Asia, and other traditions into improvisational settings.
