David Sylvian

David Sylvian is an English singer-songwriter and musician who first came to attention as the lead singer of the late 1970s and early 1980s band Japan. His solo work moves away from straightforward pop toward art pop, ambient and experimental music, characterized by a distinctive baritone, sparse atmospheric arrangements and a focus on texture and improvisation. He has worked with collaborators including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robert Fripp and Holger Czukay, and his output often blends elements of jazz, ambient and avant-garde composition.
