Compay Segundo

Compay Segundo was a Cuban singer, guitarist, and composer associated with traditional son, bolero, and trova styles. He was known for a high, reedy tenor voice, for playing a seven-string guitar variant called the armónico, and for leading ensembles that preserved older Cuban dance and song forms; in the 1990s he became associated with projects that brought renewed international attention to veteran Cuban musicians. He died in 2003.
