Charlie Haden

Charlie Haden (1937 to 2014) was an American jazz double bassist known for a warm, lyrical tone and a deeply melodic, supportive approach to the instrument. He was a central collaborator with Ornette Coleman in the development of free jazz, led the politically minded Liberation Music Orchestra, and later led Quartet West, which blended traditional jazz with cinematic and folk influences. Haden was admired for his sensitive accompaniment, expressive solos, and wide-ranging collaborations across jazz styles.
