Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók was a Hungarian composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist whose work helped shape 20th century classical music. He combined intensive collection and study of Central and Eastern European folk music with a modernist harmonic language, producing music marked by modal scales, irregular and asymmetrical rhythms, sharp dissonances, and percussive piano writing. His output spans piano literature, string quartets, orchestral and vocal works, and is noted for integrating folk elements into concert music while advancing rhythmic and harmonic techniques.
