Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains is an American rock band formed in 1987, known for combining grunge and heavy metal elements into a sound defined by downtuned, riff-driven guitars, dark and melancholic vocal harmonies, and introspective lyrics. Their arrangements often alternate between heavy electric textures and acoustic passages, with prominent vocal interplay between lead and harmony parts. Emerging from the Seattle scene, they were a significant presence in early 1990s alternative rock; the band went on hiatus after the death of original lead singer Layne Staley and later continued with a different vocalist.
