Alice Coltrane

Alice Coltrane was an American jazz pianist, harpist, organist and composer who blended post-bop and avant-garde jazz with devotional and Eastern-influenced music. After performing and recording in the 1960s, including collaborations with her husband John Coltrane, she led her own ensembles and developed expansive, meditative arrangements featuring harp, organ and orchestral textures. Later in life she embraced Hindu devotional practice, took the name Swamini Turiyasangitananda and produced devotional recordings alongside her jazz work.
