Alcest

Alcest is a French band formed in 2000 by musician Neige (Stéphane Paut). The project moved from an initial black metal background toward a blend of shoegaze, post-metal and atmospheric black metal often labeled blackgaze. Their sound emphasizes reverb-drenched, layered guitars and lush textures paired with mostly clean, ethereal vocals alongside occasional harsh vocals, creating a dreamlike and melancholic atmosphere. Alcest is frequently cited as a key act in bringing shoegaze aesthetics into heavier music.
